Story
PLEASE NOTE THIS SHORT ADDRESSES MATURE THEMES
Written and developed by our virtual cohort during the height of the pandemic in collaboration with a dedicated team of industry volunteers, Refresh follows Nayar on a mind-bending adventure as she becomes trapped inside the ‘Gram, and is forced to overcome the dark side of social media. By using animation, the students were able to create a sci-fi story and send a powerful and relevant message about the toxic effects social media has on their lives.
Why we made it
While exploring themes for their shorts, the students kept coming back to the massive impact Social Media is having on them and their peers. With their film, they wanted to highlight that everyone has their own story on social media and while these experiences can be unique, social media posts could sometimes negatively influence others’ lives and shape our own perceptions. At its core, they wanted to make clear that social media should not be perceived as the real world and that people should stay true to themselves.
