Story
A high schooler confronts an intimidating, ghastly creature while facing his family’s high academic expectations. As the pressure becomes overwhelming, Angel starts a dangerous path towards relief, rather than asking his loved ones for help.
Why we made it
Peppermint Spiral is the second short that was made in collaboration with animation non-profit Exceptional Minds and with the support of Nickelodeon Paramount Animation. Our Toronto classroom has crafted an incredibly powerful and thrilling short addressing an issue personally impacting them: mental health. Not only is Peppermint Spiral a powerful story of brotherhood and how difficult it can be to ask loved ones for help, Reel Start students were also able to portray the ongoing pressure that modern teens face and how these high expectations can become a detriment to their mental health.
